West Lakes Sports Club Redevelopment – June 2025 Update

Thank you to all members and visitors for your ongoing cooperation and patience as we work through the exciting West Lakes Sports Club redevelopment.

The redevelopment of the club is progressing well, with several key construction milestones already achieved. Recent works have included steel structures being installed, and the wall framework has begun to take shape, bringing us a step closer to delivering the new changerooms, multi-purpose room, and canteen.

In the coming months, further works to establish the oval facing verandah, structural and services commence in the new sections, plus significant internal works will occur in the clubrooms.

Clubroom Closure – Effective 7 July 2025

Following recent discussions with Council and Thorne Constructions, we confirm that the clubrooms will close from Monday 7th July and remain closed until redevelopment works are complete. This closure is necessary to ensure safety, efficiency, and adherence to project timelines and budget.

Unfortunately the bar and kitchen will be closed and unavailable for the duration.

WLSC is working closely with the football clubs, Council, and Thorne Constructions to ensure that key arrangements remain in place during the closure. Change rooms, trainers’ rooms, and umpires’ rooms will remain accessible at all times. Internal toilets will be available on Friday nights and weekends only, as Thorne Constructions will use the hallway as their main access point during weekday works on the new cool room entry. Alternative controls for the scoreboard and oval lighting are being arranged to support ongoing football operations. WLSC is also working to confirm whether limited kitchen access can be provided to allow for BBQ clean-up on Friday nights and weekends.

In addition, SMOSH Men have requested a marquee and external beer booth for home games, which WLSC will coordinate. Clubs are also encouraged to continue their BBQ and coffee cart services throughout the closure period. At this stage, WLSC is not aware of any changes to training or home game locations due to the closure. However, if clubs are considering any changes, they are encouraged to contact the WLSC Secretary and communicate also through their own communications.

New Playground

In parallel, the City of Charles Sturt has confirmed the renewal of the playground at West Lakes Shore Oval Reserve as part of its 2024/25 Playground Renewals Project. A contractor has been appointed to upgrade five playgrounds, with works at West Lakes Shore Oval scheduled to begin in August 2025 and completion expected late September/October 2025. This aligns well with the final stages of the club redevelopment, which remains on track for completion in late October/November 2025.

We thank all members and visitors for your ongoing cooperation and patience. We look forward to delivering these exciting new facilities later this year.
